Ep. 1 : “It’s Not That Complicated, Buddy”

Jane (Meryl Streep) and Jake (Alec Baldwin) have been divorced for 10 years and before that they were married for 19 years. Jake cheated on Jane with a woman named Agnus and they got a divorce because of it. Jake and Jane have 3 kids that are all grown up, the eldest daughter is getting married, the son is graduating college and the youngest is just moving into her dorm.

The day before celebrating their son’s graduation from college in New York , Jane is staying at her hotel and she is about to have dinner alone when she is interrupted by Jake and he starts to take a walk down memory lane. As the liquor and flirtations flow throughout the night they of course wind up in bed together. Alec is happy and suggests that they should start up an affair. Jane is conflicted and feels about it but also intrigued because she hasn’t been with anyone since the divorce.

She is conflicted with continuing the affair and asks for outside help but ultimately she ends it with because he hasn’t changed and she wants more than sitting around for someone else’s man. She ends things but Jake doesn’t want to and tries to convince her not to. But she’s not hearing any of it. So she starts seeing the lead architect for her home renovation Adam (Steve Martin).

They have a really amazing date and end up hitting it off. But Jake gets jealous of them and tries to sabotage the relationship by sneaking into her room and laying naked on her bed. And unbeknownst to him she was video chatting with Adam and he saw everything. Hearing the commotion the grown kids run in and Alec tells everyone the truth about the affair and how he wants to be with Jane.

The kids, deeply hurt, leave and Adam hears everything and hangs up. Jane runs to the kids the next day and explains her piece and how things are truly over for good with their dad. She tries to mend things with Adam and at first he wanted nothing more than to push her away but in the end he decides to try with her again.
